“Kimberly Mac vibrant with living foods"
Health questions and answers!
Q: I listened to one of your radio shows and heard you spoke of the alkalinity of water. What exactly is that and are there some brands that are no-nos?
A: Alkalinity is based on a scale of Mac to 14 with Mac being total acid, that will burn a hole through steel and 14 being total alkalinity. Both extremes death occurs. Our body needs to maintain a proper pH to be in balance and have all of our organs functioning properly. Ideal pH within the blood is 7.36. With the over-acidification of our bodies on a consistent basis from toxic emotions like anger, frustration, resentment, sadness, etc to the processed, denatured foods that are solid and void of water, to environmental toxins we smell, consume and put on our bodies in the form of lotions, make-up and more, we are under continued acid stresses. In order to alkalize, we need to know why it is important and what we can do to enhance our health through alkalizing.
Alkalinity is something that our body needs to keep in balance. Our body also needs acid to be balanced as the acids in our stomach, or HCl, hydrochloric acids, break down our food in order to be digested properly. When our cells and terrain surrounding our cells are in an over acid condition, our cells are unable to read the information provided to them to deliver nutrients from our foods and water to our organs to function properly. The electrical pulses are no longer strong enough and so the cells become sticky and clump together, prohibiting the flow of oxygen, nutrients and information to our cells and organs. If our cells continue to be exposed to an over acid environment, they weaken and become susceptible to damage, mutation and disease. If our body is over acid, the self healing mechanism that we are, is unable to provide enough reserves we were designed to have in our body to balance the acids, and our reserves become depleted. This stripping of our alkaline reserves results in the acids needing more alkalinity so it will pull the alkaline buffers in the form of calcium from our bones. This is another reason why acidic dairy should be avoided as the over-acidification within the system causes the bone calcium to leach out to neutralize the excess acids. It is a perpetual cycle, until the cells and the bones are depleted enough to become weak, brittle and cause other issues inside and outside the body.
So water can assist the body in alkalizing by finding a source that is a higher than 7.0 alkalinity. I suggest a few options that are high in energy, minerals and alkalinity: Fiji, Essentia come to mind. You can read the labels and taste what you like. Green juices are the most alkalizing such as wheatgrass juice, the E3 LIVE on my web site www.thenakedvegan.com that is available in travel capsules as well, and any green vegetables juices and smoothies. I have a smoothie recipe guide and book available as well with great alkalizing recipes for breakfast. The most important way to start your day is to hydrate, alkalize and energize and with these resources, you will be on top of your game!
Q: What foods or vitamins can I eat or take to help my skin? I gained a lot of weight and have unsightly stretch marks and some discoloration in areas. Now that I am losing the weight my skin still looks bad. What can I do?
A: Foods will enhance or detract from our beauty and our body's natural ability to heal and rejuvenate or to reverse damage to our internal and external image. Through healing foods, our body has the capacity to reduce or eliminate damage that may have been done from overeating, eating toxic foods, breathing toxic elements, using toxic products on our skin and in our homes, stress, and more. Healing foods are more than just antioxidants, which combat the toxins that we can and cannot control that come into our
bodies everyday. We really are what we eat. Choose wisely.
I have a new book that is just being released that is a transitional food program called Real Food Real Fast, Lifetime Eating Plan, and this contains the foods that assist someone looking to become healthier, still enjoy cooked, healthier foods, raw foods and fast foods that are also healthy.
Here are some of the beautifying foods that I use in my recipes in this new book and some resources that make it easy to condition as part of our daily health habits: mega 3 essential fatty acids: raw nuts and seeds and raw nut butters, coconut
oil/butter and young coconuts
Silicon rich foods to enhance elasticity of skin, membranes - including
brain tissue, body flexibility, and much more: radish, romaine lettuces,
cucumbers, tomatoes, oats (whole grain not quick or anything other than
whole groats or steel cut), superfoods of greens and grasses.
Sulfur foods that are essential to collagen and elasticity (for example
glucosamine, a sulfur compound, is recommended for joint issues but when one
adds sulfur to the diet, there is not a need for artificial methods).
Hair, skin and nails are dependant upon sulfur for curl, shine, resiliency,
radiance and more.
Arugala, watercress, E3 Live blue green algae (available through my site ), bee pollen, cruciforous vegetables as cabbage, broccoli, brussel sprouts, garlic, onions, radish, pumpkin and hemp seeds to name a few.
Regarding the stretch marks, there are two products I use to help resume natural skin color and dissipate the temporary "scars". Get some unfiltered coconut oil/butter and some wheat germ oil. These will be used for topical use and you rub them in completely like a mini massage, as often as possible daily. I would contact The Living Temple to buy the best coconut oil I use for everything (even my new skincare line that is being launched in September). The Living Temple is 714-891-5117 and be sure to tell Robin,
the owner that Kimberly Mac sent you!
Q: I can not afford to buy organic fruits and vegetables but want to live a healthy lifestyle. Any suggestions?
A: OK. I have to be blunt here. HOW CAN YOU NOT AFFORD to make your health your most important priority? Would you poison your children? Well, then, why poison yourself with toxic pesticides, chemicals and most of all, lack of nutrients for you and them to combat disease and illness? Organic is not just about chemicals on our foods, it is about getting 10 and more times the nutrients with less food. There are so many studies showing the potency of nutrients and minerals in organic vs non-organic that it is stifling to me that anyone would question whether they should do all organic of not. If you must buy conventional because of lack of availability, buy only
fruits that are hard skinned and not porous. The more porous, the more toxins are absorbed inside the fruit and not just on the skin. Buy a fruit and vegetable wash that is natural and edible. ALWAYS wash everything, even if it is organic. Buy fruits that are more nutrient rich in the first place. For example, a pear is more nutrient rich for the calories than an apple. Find a list online of nutrients you can evaluate to get higher nutrients for the food you ingest. This helps with proper weight maintenance as well. Highly dense, rich nutrients for the calories consumed helps us age slower and slow DNA damage. This is one reason why I choose to eat Juice Plus+ everyday - all the nutrients and no calories! If you want to know more you can go to Juice Plus' website .
Now, I understand going out to dinner that the food may not be organic. This is where you choose your poisons. Always get some raw food to start so your body has digestive enzymes (exist only in raw food) to assist in drawing out what nutrients are in the other foods and help you with digestion. If they offer an organic greens salad, order it. Be wise to only get foods that you know are not laden with hormones and chemicals to make the animal larger, such as beef and chicken. If you know or even ask to find out if it is organic, then go for it if you eat that. However, get educated as to what the non-organic and hormone injected animal foods are doing to your body.
If you want to look and stay younger longer, this type of foods is not for you. Organic, mineral rich, fruits and vegetables are the way to be and stay beautiful! This is what I choose to eat and I choose to be and feel young and healthy for the rest of my life.
Q: I have been trying the recipes that I get from your newsletter but still incorporate my regular diet. Am I doing more harm than good for not being all vegan or at least vegetarian?
A: Congratulations on making baby steps! You are on the right path to enhancing your health. Of course you are doing more help to yourself by incorporating my or any other raw recipes into your health habits. Any additional raw than what you had been doing is better than nothing right? Also, it is better to move slowly into any new program. Our body responds better to slow integration so it believes us and it then gets conditioned to enjoy more and more by the slow method. You are right on course - steady ahead!
There is another option that I recommend for everyone looking to transition into a healthier, more alive life. This is my Rejuvenation LIVEstyle Retreat Programs. I am offering a program for 3 full intensive days of total raw food submersion, education for transitional lifestyle to a vegetarian, vegan and/or raw food way of living. You will be taken care of in every aspect from food, to yoga, to massage to total raw rejuvenation over 3 days. More details are on my site and you can get the full package at a discount as a friend of To You Magazine. Email me today for the details on this special discount for To You Magazine readers ONLY. Limited spaces remain for a maximum intimate group of 20 health minded people.
Q: What is the difference between a Vegan and a Raw foodist?
A: There are several types of vegetarians today. Vegans, who are the purists
of the vegetarian world and who have one of the most specialized diets,
refuse to eat all animal-derivative foods including butter, cheese, eggs and
milk. Ovolacto vegetarians consider such animal-related foods acceptable but
do not eat meat.
Across the board, most vegetarians prefer their food organically grown and
(if they eat fish and fowl) organically fed. Vegetarians get their Protein
from a variety of sources, such as foods from the large family of legumes,
greens and vegetables.
Now, this does not mean that being a vegetarian or even a vegan for that
matter means you will be healthy. In order to be healthier, you want to
choose foods that are high water content foods (yes, fruits and
vegetables) because these are the healing and rejuvenating foods that keep us
healthy and young with energy.
Many vegetarians and vegans you may have seen may not look healthy by their
appearance or weight. Their poor food selections and lack of vital exercise
is the difference. To be healthy inside and out, we start with what we put
in, and keep out, and we consciously and consistently do this over and over
to create healthy or unhealthy habits that make up our lifestyle. Simply
being a vegetarian or vegan is not going to make us healthy. We need to
live a healthy lifestyle, adding healthy foods with energy, movement,
healthy thoughts and people as well as surround ourselves with a healthy
environment as much as possible.
veg·an (v?'g?n, v?j'?n)
n. A vegetarian who eats plant products only, especially one who uses no
products derived from animals, such as fur or leather.
I have coined the name ‘Ocean Vegan’, since I started as such, which are
those vegetarians who will eat fish, but no other animal products.
raw foodist:
n. A person who consumes primarily raw food. One who consumes a raw
food diet (or living foods diet) consisting of uncooked and unprocessed, and
mostly organic foods. There is some debate over what quantity of raw food intake
actually identifies one as a raw foodist. Most agree that if someone eats
75% or more of their food as raw, they are a raw foodist, although there is
evidence that when one consumes 100% raw food, their assimilation goes up
considerably.
Most of the foods consumed in a typical vegan raw food diet are fruits,
vegetables, nuts, and seeds.
The exact definition of raw food varies, but the general consensus is that a
food is considered raw if it has not been heated to more than 115 degrees
Fahrenheit (46 degrees Celsius), and if it has not been frozen.
The difference between being vegan and a raw foodist is simply the
difference between eating cooked foods and not eating cooked foods. As a
raw foodist, it is much more likely that you will gain much more high water
content foods in your day as without cooking, the foods retain a higher
water percentage, as well as more nutrients. Some raw foodists do eat raw meats,
fish or dairy but it is more common that a raw foodist is also a vegan.
Q. What is your advise for someone who is not disciplined enough to
diet?
A: I never consider living a diet because we all know and have heard it
many times that "diets don't work". The first thing is that whatever in
life that is worth doing, must first be decided upon with conviction that it
is worth your time and effort. If you choose it is not, you will not do it.
It is that simple. No amount of will power will ever be able to fight a
lack of desire.
So, I offer this, consider a lifestyle enhancement. I teach from an
additive perspective instead of a deprivation perspective. ADD the good
things to your life in baby steps, either once a month, once a week and
eventually once a day. This enables you to increase your health, your
quality of life, in a manner that suits your lifestyle, without drastic
change. This is the most successful way of increasing our health that I
know from tried and proven success.
Q: What other lifestyle changes can be made to a "healthier" life and
possible weight loss?
A: One of the most valuable lessons I have shared with great results was a
conference I spoke at in Dublin, Ireland. A man wrote me and told me he had
done nothing I said to enhance his health, except one thing - to breathe,
consistently and everyday with the techniques I taught. Weight loss,
clarity of mind, focus, energy are just a few benefits from this breathing.
Remember, we can live months without food, days without water but we can
live only minutes without oxygen! Although, they are all key elements in
health and vitality, what does that say about what we should be getting more
of?
Q. What is the suggested minimum exercise on a weekly basis for someone too
busy to go to the gym for an hour at a time?
A: You can walk a minimum of 10 minutes, 3 times a day and that is as effective
as 30 minutes all at once. It is not until we get up to over 45-50 minutes
that we begin compounding the calories at a higher rate. This is most
inconvenient for all of us, unless we are doing something we LOVE and lose
track of time with it. This is why I suggest we all do activity we LOVE
ONLY. The benefits are so much more than just exercising!
The gym. I love it, especially when there is a steam and sauna to enjoy! I
have phases like everyone else to go to the gym but I really just like to
enjoy the gym for those amenities. I highly recommend finding those
physical activities that you really enjoy and make it fun to exercise. Do
it with a friend or a team or your family to gain more quality time
together. If it is a fun activity that is based on exercise and movement,
it will not be thought of as exercise but a fun time together to connect and
enjoy. I go hiking with a friend who I would not see often otherwise and we
talk girl talk about men and you know the drill when women get together!
It is a blast and we are huffing and puffing the whole way up and down the
hike, with gorgeous Laguna Beach landscape as our canvas. What could be
more satisfying? Write down 3 physical activities you love and find a
buddy, or just make it a must for your time alone for yourself to enjoy. We
all need our time. This is a perfect way to combine and multitask where it
is effective and good for us!
As always ~ To Your Enhanced Health!
